Creating truly sustainable smartphones and ICT by 2030

Smartphones and ICT have huge potential to drive sustainable development forward, but the production of these devices comes with social and environmental risks. These include:
  • poor working conditions in the supply chain
  • use of high-risk and conflict minerals,
  • accumulation of electronic waste
  • use of hazardous substances
  • intensive use of energy and other natural resources.

​​In response to this challenge, Transform Together is now building a global partnership for sustainable smartphones and created common goals outlined in our 2030 vision. With our partners, we developing a plan of practical actions for industry, policy and procurement to achieve this vision.

Our work to achieve sustainable smartphones and ICT

In 2018 we created a report on the most important issues - as well as potential solutions - for sustainable smartphones. The report considers issues from design to raw materials, manufacturing to procurement, as well as product life extension and end of life.
